This Irish one and a half penny (1½d) postage stamp features a beautifully detailed Map of Ireland (Léarscáil na hÉireann), designed by artist James Ingram for the Irish Free State's first definitive stamp series, introduced in 1922.

Printed in a distinctive rose-red colour, the design depicts the entire island of Ireland within an ornate arch, framed by intricate Celtic knotwork, shamrocks and decorative patterns. The inscription Trí Leat-Pingine, an older Irish expression for three halfpence, identifies the stamp's value.

The depiction of the entire island, without a border separating Northern Ireland from the rest of the country, was particularly significant during the early years of the Irish Free State, reflecting the national aspirations and cultural identity of the newly independent state.
