Tiny Giants is a series that celebrates the intricate details of the smallest objects, magnifying their tiniest features so you can truly appreciate every scratch and dent. Each imperfection tells a story, from hands exchanging them in bustling markets to decades spent tucked away in pockets. These flaws, brought into sharp focus, transform the objects into intimate portraits of history, inviting you to see the beauty in their wear and tear.

This Irish ninepence (9d) postage stamp features the Four Provinces Coat of Arms (Armas na gCeithre Chúige), designed by artist Millicent Grace Girling for the Irish Free State's first definitive stamp series, introduced in 1922.

Printed in a distinctive deep purple, the design features a shield divided into four sections, representing Ireland's historic provinces: Leinster's harp, Munster's three crowns, Ulster's Red Hand and Connacht's eagle and armed hand. The shield is framed by decorative shamrocks and intricate Celtic-inspired ornamentation, with the word Éire prominently displayed above.

Bringing the four provincial emblems together on a single shield symbolises the shared heritage and cultural identity of the entire island. Their inclusion on Ireland's early postage stamps reflected the importance of national identity during the years following independence.

A beautiful example of early Irish stamp design, this historic piece celebrates Ireland's four provinces, traditional heraldry and artistic heritage.
